DESCRIPTION:“Magical” can mean many things\, but here we’re defining it as a person\, moment\, place\, or object with a special\, mysterious quality that makes it feel full of wonder and excitement. We invite all artists to submit 2-D and 3-D works that can mystify and excite our viewers and that expresses what’s magical and mysterious to you. \nThis exhibit will run from October 4 – October 30 both in the gallery and on our website. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces for consideration. Cash prizes and a framed certificate will be presented to the first\, second\, and third place winners at a reception honoring the artists and their work. Carefully designed exercises and individualized feedback will strengthen your skills of observation\, which will in turn rapidly improve your ability to draw accurately.  In Level I\, we will study aspects of contour drawing\, negative space\, shading\, proportions\, perspective\, and color.  You will learn the fundamentals of drawing by drawing subjects ranging from the human figure to animals and botanical drawings. You will also learn to draw with different mediums including graphite pencils\, conte crayon pencils\, and colored pencils. The groups are kept small (max of 6) so everyone can participate and receive ample feedback during the class. On Thursdays\, from 7 to 8:30 pm online\, local artist Mei-Ling Ellerman will teach fundamental concepts and techniques through a variety of classes that include drawing skies/clouds\, landscapes\, fruit\, portraits\, and figures. 1-2 classes will be designed based on the specific needs and interests of the students. Mei-Ling offers support and feedback throughout the class\, which will help you to hone your observation skills and improve your drawings. Jazz singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist David Thorne Scott “explores the intersection of Jazz and Americana\, city and country\, instrumentation and lyrics to create lush compositions and covers that are unifying\, and healing\, in their beauty” (Laurie Fanell\, Eponymous Review). In his new “Thornewood” CD project\, he interprets songs from Great American Songbook\, plainspoken Texas songwriters and slick film composers. A resident of Boston who was born and raised in Nebraska\, David’s original songs are inspired musically by hard bop\, and lyrically by the Great Plains.\nThis performance will be preceded by a closing reception for our February Art Exhibition which will be held from 12 pm to 1 pm and is open to all.
